Tim helps business owners and C-levels executives, especially those who may be about to undergo a life-changing event such as the sale of a business or the exercise of stock options. He helps clients through his planning and advice to achieve their hopes, dreams, and ambitions through the rearrangement of their financial affairs and the investment of their capital.
Tim is the CFO and a shareholder of Compass Holding Group Inc. which wholly owns Capital Corporation (Compass), which Tim founded in 1984 as a SEC registered investment advisor in the practice of wealth management and financial planning. Tim is CEO of Compass. He is also the founder (1985), General Securities Principal, and Financial and Operations Principal of Compass Securities Corporation, a Compass affiliate and FINRA general securities broker/dealer. Tim is CFO of Compass Holdings and Cavalier Investments, a registered investment advisor to the Cavalier Funds, affiliates of Compass. Tim served as past President and past Chairman of the Greater Boston Society of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners. He has served as a securities industry arbitrator for over 20 years with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Dispute Resolution.

He is a founding principal of the Compass Institute for Professional Education & Development (CIPED) which provides continuing education programs to financial advisors. He serves as a securities industry arbitrator with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Dispute Resolution Inc.
Mr. Shanahan was a partner in a Boston financial counseling firm of Cheverie & Partners from 1975-1978. Prior to founding Compass, Mr. Shanahan was president of Alternative Financial Planning Associates (AFPA), a division of Alternative Investment Corporation of Boston. Mr. Shanahan was also a Senior Financial Consultant for the Personal Financial Consulting group at State Street Bank and Trust Company, a more than 200-year old trust company, where he counseled high net worth individuals on a fee-only basis and managed customized mutual fund portfolios from 1991 to 1993.
He is a 1975 graduate of Suffolk University in Boston (BA Psychology).He completed the CFP curriculum offered by the College for Financial Planning in 1984 and was certified by the CFP Board in June 1984 and remained a member of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners through 1999.
